Rid a Cold With This Crazy Home Remedy

You’re pluggin’ along enjoying your day when you start to notice that little tickle in your throat. And then there's a little sniffle. And before you even realize what’s happening you are coughing, sneezing, feverish, and you can’t breathe through your nose.

Ahhh it’s the dreaded cold.

My naturopathic doctor, Dr. Paul Herscu, turned me onto a nifty little trick we call “the wet sock treatment”. As crazy as it sounds—it really works.

Wet Sock Treatment

  1. Soak a pair of thin cotton socks in cold water. Wring out and put in the frig (2+ hours).

  2. Then, soak the entire body in a hot tub (as hot as you can comfortably stand) for 20 minutes.

  3. Put some lavender/eucalyptus essential oils in the tub & sip a cup of hot tea as you soak.

  4. Get out and immediately put on the cold socks.

  5. Now cover those cold cotton socks with a pair of dry wool socks.

  6. Apply some essential oil eucalyptus chest rub (or as we call it "luv rub"). I use “tea tree therapy”--it smells so good!

  7. Diffuse pure therapeutic grade essential oils [I like eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, thieves, breathe, etc.].

  8. Drift off to sleep.

  9. Wake up a “New You”! Hooray!

  10. Repeat for 3 nights.

Why The Heck Does This Work?

In a nutshell, it revs up the immune system. As the body reacts to the cold socks, vessels in the feet will constrict and blood circulation will increase, moving blood through your lymph nodes and stimulating the immune system.
